Full Curriculum

What You'll Learn — Week by Week

01
IaC Foundations & Terraform Basics
Weeks 1–2
  • Why IaC matters — configuration drift, auditability and the case for version control
  • Terraform architecture — providers, resources, state and the HCL language
  • Core workflow — init, plan, apply, destroy and state management
  • Variables, locals, outputs and data sources
  • Working with AWS, Azure and GCP Terraform providers
  • Lab: Write Terraform to provision a complete 3-tier application environment from scratch
02
Advanced Terraform Patterns
Week 3
  • Module design — reusable, composable modules with input validation
  • Remote state with S3 and DynamoDB — state locking and team workflows
  • Workspaces vs separate state files — when to use each
  • Terraform testing — tflint, checkov, Terratest and plan testing in CI
  • Terraform Cloud and Atlantis for team collaboration
  • Lab: Build a production-grade modular Terraform codebase with CI/CD automated plan and apply
03
Ansible for Configuration Management
Weeks 4–5
  • Ansible architecture — control node, managed nodes, inventory and SSH
  • Playbooks, tasks, handlers, variables, facts and conditionals
  • Roles — structure, defaults, templates, files and dependencies
  • Ansible Vault for secrets management
  • Dynamic inventory for AWS, Azure and GCP
  • Idempotency in practice — writing playbooks safe to run repeatedly
  • Lab: Write an Ansible role that configures a fresh Ubuntu server to CIS Benchmark Level 2
04
Packer & Golden Image Management
Week 6
  • Golden images — why pre-baked AMIs are better than cloud-init scripts
  • Packer HCL — builders, provisioners and post-processors
  • Building AWS AMIs, Azure VM images and Docker images with Packer
  • Image testing with InSpec and automated validation in CI
  • Image lifecycle management — versioning, patching and deprecation
  • Lab: Build a Packer pipeline producing hardened, tested AWS AMIs from a GitHub Actions workflow
05
Patch Automation & Fleet Management
Week 7
  • Patch management fundamentals — vulnerability windows and patching SLAs
  • Ansible canary patching — patch 10%, validate, then roll out fleet-wide
  • AWS Systems Manager (SSM) — automated patching and Run Command
  • Pre and post-patch health validation automation
  • Compliance reporting — automated patch compliance dashboards
  • Lab: Build a zero-touch patch automation system updating a 20-server fleet with health validation
06
Compliance Automation & Capstone
Week 8
  • CIS Benchmarks — understanding Level 1 and Level 2 controls across Linux and Windows
  • ArmorPlane — continuous CIS scanning, auto-remediation and safe rollback
  • Integrating compliance scanning into CI/CD pipelines
  • Compliance dashboards in Grafana — real-time scoring for CISO and leadership
  • Capstone: Packer-built images, Terraform-provisioned infra, Ansible-configured servers, ArmorPlane-enforced compliance
  • Live review with ZippyOPS Infrastructure Automation engineers
